To enhance overseas promotion efforts and comprehensively promote Shanghai's education and the Study in Shanghai brand, the 2024 China Shanghai Education Exhibition was recently held with great success in Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, South Korea. The Shanghai Municipal Education Commission organized the participation of 25 universities including Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Tongji University, as well as 4 high schools including the affiliated foreign languages school of Shanghai Foreign Language School. The education exhibition received strong support from the Chinese Embassy in Japan and the Chinese Embassy in South Korea. Sun Yan, the director of the Foreign Students Affairs Office and dean of the International Education College of our university, attended the event.
On September 17, 2024, the China Shanghai Education Exhibition and the Study in Shanghai briefing session were held at the Machida campus of J.F.Oberlin University. A total of 48 Japanese institutions, including universities, high schools, and study abroad service providers, as well as over 150 individuals from local universities and high schools in Shanghai, participated in the Study in Shanghai briefing session. They introduced their respective study abroad education programs and engaged in face-to-face discussions and exchanges on new trends in study abroad development, as well as the opportunities and challenges faced.
The counselor of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, Guo Jun, the first-level inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Committee, Zheng Jin, the head of the 2024 China Shanghai Education Expo, and the president of J.F.Oberlin University, Hidetaka Hatakeyama, delivered speeches respectively. The person in charge of the International Exchange Office of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission made a comprehensive introduction to Studying in Shanghai, and the inspector of the Higher Education Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Yoko Ito, introduced the internationalization of Japanese education and the situation of promoting two-way study abroad. Eight institutions, including Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai Jian Qiao College, and Nagasaki University, Chuo University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and Waseda University in Japan, made institutional introductions. The participating institutions from both sides engaged in free discussions and interactive Q&A sessions on two topics: New Thinking and New Scenarios for Sino-Japanese Educational Exchange and Cooperation and Challenges and Opportunities for Chinese Students Studying in Japan. During the discussion and exchange session, Sun Yan, representing Shanghai Second Polytechnic University, and representatives from Tongji University, East China Normal University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Theatre Academy, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), J.F.Oberlin University, Asia University, and Japanese student dormitory service providers conducted on-site Q&A exchanges.
From September 21st to 22nd, the 2024 Korea International Education Expo was held at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Center in Seoul, Korea. This expo is the largest and most influential international education event in Korea annually. This year, over 160 participating units from more than 20 countries, including the United States, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand, attended the event. The 2024 China Shanghai Education Expo participated as an Exhibition within an Exhibition. Prior to the event, the Chinese Embassy in Korea's Charge d'Affaires ad interim, Fang Kun, met with the delegation of the education expo. The Chinese Embassy in Korea's Minister-Counselor for Political Affairs, Ai Hongge, the First-Level Inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Committee, Zheng Jin, and the main person in charge of the 2024 Korea International Education Expo jointly cut the ribbon for the 2024 China Shanghai Education Expo and toured the exhibition.
The two-day exhibition attracted over 21,000 visitors, with the Shanghai Education booth experiencing a steady stream of attendees. The Shanghai Education delegation also conducted promotions and exchanges at universities in Japan and South Korea. During their stay in Japan, the delegation visited Chuo University and Waseda University. In South Korea, they visited Yonsei University and Hanyang University. The delegation received warm hospitality from the Japanese and South Korean universities, and both sides engaged in sincere and in-depth discussions on expanding student exchanges, establishing inter-university cooperation, and conducting collaborative education.
This educational exhibition provided an opportunity to further enhance the quality of international students coming to our university, optimize the student body structure, and promote in-depth exchanges and cooperation between our institution and the educational communities of China, Japan, and South Korea.
