In order to comprehensively and deeply understand the current situation and future development direction of international Chinese education degree programs, and to promote the connotative and high-quality development of the degree programs at the School of International Education, enhance the quality of international education, and cultivate high-level talents with an international perspective and competitiveness, on the morning of September 13, 2024, Director Zhao Jingbo of the Graduate School, accompanied by a team, conducted a guiding research on the construction and application of the international Chinese education degree program at the School of International Education. The Dean of the School of International Education, Sun Yan, the heads of research and graduate work, Zhang Tiantian, the degree program secretary, He Xiaolu, and the academic affairs staff member, Su Di, participated in this research meeting.
Sun Yan and Zhang Tiantian separately sorted out and reported on the school's history of running, development positioning, degree program application, subject positioning, and focus on characteristics, and had in-depth exchanges and discussions with the leaders of the Graduate School on the future planning and construction development of the international Chinese education degree program.
Director Zhao Jingbo has highly commended the achievements made by the School of International Education in the preliminary application process for degree programs and has congratulated on the successful application for the International Chinese Education degree program. The current global trend of Chinese fever is strong, and the macro environment for the development of international Chinese education remains favorable, presenting unique advantages and opportunities for development for the degree program. However, the school's engineering background and the optimization of the overall discipline layout also pose a challenge to the degree program. It is necessary to assess the situation, act in accordance with the trend, set clear goals, work diligently, fully utilize the regional advantages, talent advantages, and high-quality resources of the Shanghai area, as well as the school's engineering expertise and strong disciplines, to form a differentiated competition with the international Chinese education degree programs of other universities in Shanghai, carve out a unique path, enhance the construction level of the degree program, and strengthen the quality of training for applied innovative talents.
Subsequently, a delegation from the Graduate School also thoroughly understood the curriculum design and construction, enrollment planning and directions, practical teaching and joint talent cultivation, and faculty development of the International Chinese education degree program. They provided reasonable suggestions for the future construction and development of the degree program.
Our institute will fully utilize the engineering strengths and disciplinary expertise of our university, relying on high-altitude disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering (Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering), Materials Science and Engineering (Energy Conservation and New Energy Materials), as well as emerging interdisciplinary fields like Artificial Intelligence, Energy, and Environmental Protection. We will actively promote the training of international Chinese teachers for the Belt and Road and neighboring countries; leverage the knowledge system of multiple disciplines to explore cultural inheritance and dissemination paths that are multi-channel, precisely positioned, and sustainable; investigate the outbound paths of Chinese Plus characteristic technologies, continuously adjust, enhance, and optimize the curriculum construction and the cultivation model for compound talents, promote the connotative development of graduate education, comprehensively improve the educational and teaching standards and the quality of talent cultivation of the degree program, and effectively run an international Chinese education major with engineering characteristics and technical connotations.
